Based on the life of American artist Margaret Keane, the movie makes striking revelations about the troubles the artist faced in her career. When Margaret along with her daughter Jane, settles down with her second husband Walter, she is shocked to discover that he had been selling her paintings whilst stealing away her credit. She also finds out that while he was portraying himself as a painter, he was in actuality selling someone else’s paintings.
Margaret is upset and feels cheated. She is threatened by Walter for her life and forced to paint and reproduce her works which Walter would sell as his own. Walter becomes dangerous to live with and Margaret leaves him and files for a divorce from him. Walter is not interested in letting her go and ultimately at the court the final challenge is to have both of them paint their works and naturally Margaret wins.
