The events take place in a unique alternative reality, visually characteristic of steampunk, where the viewer meets Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a girl who ended her life in suicide while pregnant. The scientist (Willem Dafoe), who discovered the secret of reanimating dead bodies, manages to remove the brain of the future baby and implant it into the mother. At first glance, it may seem like a simple horror tale with spicy features, but it turns out to be a multi-layered work that raises very complex questions. \'Poor Unfortunate\' is a film that defies simple classification, it is both a Victorian novel and a macabre comedy, a Frankenstein-like tale of resurrection, and reflections on mortality - all in one glorious whimsical package of surrealistic mixture of delight and unease. Adaptation of the eponymous novel by Alasdair Gray.
