Racially mixed boomtown at the end of the century, full of fresh wealth and cunning politicians. The main character is Charles Crocker, once a college football star, and now the conglomerate king in Atlanta, whose excessive ego has finally collided with reality. Charlie owns 29,000 acres of quail plantations, a young and demanding second wife, and a half-empty office complex with an excessive debt.
